Second stage underpainting Triptych Nina & Francis
The underpainting is almost finished, I just have to add a few small details. Monday, when the paint is dry, I start with color.

Underpainting, My Amsterdam #1
I started with a new series titled "My Amsterdam". All the paintings in this series will be 100 x 80 cm in olieverf. The subjects are my favourite places in Amsterdam.
The first painting is the former cinema "Cineac" in the Reguliersbreestraat, 1934.
The neon-sing was taken away in the 70's and for a little while it was a Planet Hollywood restaurant. A few years they brought it back to it's former glory!

Queensday 2010
I spent Queensday 2010 in "de Koekfabriek". This was the factory where they used to make the "Cookies from Verkade", nowadays it is a restaurant. I was invited to paint or draw and show some of my work. My "Along the River Zaan" series fitted perfectly on this location. I prepared a new drawing with airbrush and ink and took my colored pencils with me.
It was a great day with lots of positive reactions on my work, you'll never know what comes from this...

Hot, Airbrush and Colored Pencil
I bought an Airbrush recently. I don't want to make Airbrush Artworks but want to use it in combination with other media. This is my first experiment. It is 25 years ago that i had an Airbrush in my hands, so i kept it simple this first time. I Airbrushed the red and blue only.

Triptych Nina and Francis
I made a sketch design for a new portrait assignment. It is going to be a Triptych. The size i had in mind was 100x100 cm but that was too big for the available space. It is going to be 80x80 cm, 2 paintings of 33x80cm and 1 of 14x80 cm. I have to stretch and prepare my own canvasses. Van Beek sells stretcher bars in every size.

Elvis 24, 1966
A while back i made a small Elvis portrait, size 6 x 6". After finishing that one i got the idea to make 24 small Elvis portraits, one for every year of his career. The first one from 1954 and the last one from 1977. When i finish them all i'm going to make a special frame where they all fit in.

Book tip #1, Color, Victoria Finlay
I got this great book for Christmas. It got lots of fascinating tidbits about colors and their history. It reads like a travel and history book.
Recommended for everybody interested in art, color and travel.

Method Randy Ford #5
Step 5: Color wash. The same process as the grisaille but this time with basic colors. The grisaille partially shows through. Grisaille and color wash acts as a primer coat that will permit the first coat of paint to appear opaque.
